How to Deliver a Killer Speech Introduction
As a public speaker, you know how vital it is to get your audience interested from the get go. You have to speak in such a way that it forces the audience to look at you, especially in the very beginning. Public speaking is not something that just anyone can do. It takes skills such as a positive attitude, perseverance, patience, and the ability to motivate a crowd.
You have to be able to wow your audience from the start if you wish to be great at public speaking. Which means you are going to need to be able to produce a great speech introduction. Not only do you have to know your material well, but also you have to know how to deliver it in a way that keeps your audience’s attention. Grabbing your audience’s attention right away is a great way to start an introduction speech. This can be done in a number of ways. You could stand up in the back of the room and as you’re announced walk across a chair or two. Perhaps you could even walk across a desk as you are head to the front. The audience would not be expecting that, therefore you would be grabbing their attention. Or you could also yell some kind of instruction or message at your audience as your come up to the front.
Another way to start out a speech introduction could be having the audience take out a piece of paper and write down a list of the most important topics you give in the speech. The expectation of knowing something valuable is going to be told to them will raise their anticipation level. You could also start off your speech with the telling of a spellbinding story that would captivate your audience, and hold their attention. If you are an enthusiastic speaker this is especially true.
Listen to the experts around you to help learn how to start a speech, especially if you are new to public speaking. Paying attention to those who have been public speaking for years will give you a trick or two and also improve your own delivery.
Having a great speech introduction and then giving your audience a reason to react to you is the key to presenting your speech. By doing this you’ll find your ability at public speaking increasing and that you’re gaining more speaking opportunities.
